One of the defining advantages of XERF is how little recovery it requires.
Unlike surgical or ablative treatments, XERF is designed to work beneath the skin’s surface without breaking it, which means most patients return to normal activity immediately. That said, understanding what is genuinely normal in the hours and days after treatment, and following the right aftercare, makes a meaningful difference to how well your results develop.
Immediately after treatment, the treated skin typically feels warm and looks mildly flushed or pink. Many patients also notice an immediate sensation of tightness, caused by the instant contraction of existing collagen fibres in response to the heat. This is a good sign and is often taken as an early indicator of how the skin is responding.
In the following hours, mild redness and warmth continue to settle. Most patients find these effects have resolved within a few hours, and by the following morning the skin typically looks and feels normal. Because XERF uses continuous cryogen cooling to protect the skin surface throughout treatment, the redness is generally far milder than with treatments lacking integrated cooling.

XERF’s results are driven entirely by the body’s own collagen production process, which continues for several months after your appointment. Good aftercare in the days immediately following treatment, and consistent sun protection in the months that follow, directly supports the quality and longevity of your result. Skipping SPF or introducing harsh actives too soon will not reverse the treatment, but it can meaningfully undermine the collagen remodelling process that is doing the real work.
