How Many Sessions of XERF Do You Need?

Most patients need between 1 and 3 sessions of XERF, depending on the degree of skin laxity being treated and the result they are aiming for. Some see meaningful improvement from a single session.

Others, particularly those with more established laxity, benefit from a short series spaced a few weeks apart.

There is no universal number that applies to everyone, but there is a clear logic behind how the right number is determined.

How Many XERF Sessions Table - Dr Hass Clinic

Why the number varies from patient to patient

  1. The degree of skin laxity present at the start of treatment is the single biggest factor. XERF works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, a biological process that builds gradually rather than happening all at once. Someone with mild, early-stage looseness typically needs less stimulation to see a meaningful result than someone with more established laxity across a larger area.
  2. The area being treated also matters. Facial skin is thinner and generally more responsive to radiofrequency energy, which means visible change can appear more quickly than in thicker-skinned or larger body areas.
  3. Your skin’s biological response plays a role too. Collagen production capacity varies between individuals based on age, general skin health, and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and smoking. Two patients with a similar starting point can respond somewhat differently to the same number of sessions.
  4. Your goal shapes the plan as well. Patients using XERF preventatively, or simply to maintain results already achieved, often need only a single annual session. Patients addressing a more visible concern, such as jowling or a softened jawline, are more likely to benefit from a short series.

Why XERF sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart

When more than one session is recommended, treatments are typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

This interval is not arbitrary. Collagen remodelling from each session continues to develop over several weeks, and spacing sessions this way allows that process to progress meaningfully before the next treatment adds further stimulation.

Treating too soon does not accelerate results, it simply adds energy to skin that is still in the middle of remodelling from the previous session.

How age affects your treatment plan

Collagen decline is a gradual process, which means the right approach shifts somewhat across different life stages. This is a helpful general guide, though your practitioner will always assess your actual skin condition rather than your age alone.

Late 20s to early 30s. Collagen production is generally still strong at this stage. A single session, used preventatively or annually, is often enough to support skin quality before visible laxity develops.

Mid 30s to 40s. This is when early to moderate laxity typically becomes more noticeable, particularly along the jawline and in the lower face. A short series of 2 to 3 sessions is common at this stage, often followed by an annual maintenance session.

50s and beyond. More pronounced laxity is common by this stage, and a series of 3 sessions is often recommended to achieve a meaningful result. Results remain gradual rather than dramatic, in keeping with how XERF works biologically, but noticeable improvement in firmness and definition is still achievable.

When will you see XERF results?

For a single session, visible tightening begins within hours, with the fuller collagen-driven result developing over the following 3 to 6 months.

For patients completing a series of 2 to 3 sessions, the complete result of the whole series is typically visible within a similar timeframe once the final session has had time to take effect. For a detailed breakdown of the timeline and how long results last, read our guide on XERF results and how long they last.

What happens after your initial series?

Once your initial course of treatment is complete, most patients maintain their results with a single annual session, rather than repeating a full series.

This keeps collagen production consistently supported without the need for another intensive round of treatment, provided the initial laxity has been addressed adequately.

Why this can only be confirmed at consultation

The ranges above are a genuinely useful starting point, but the right number of sessions for you specifically depends on a physical assessment.

At Dr Hass Clinic, Dr Hasaneen Al-Janabi assesses your skin quality, the degree of laxity present, and your goals before recommending a plan, rather than applying a standard number to every patient regardless of their anatomy.
