Two recent studies are directly relevant here, and both point in the same direction.
A 2025 study published in Lasers in Medical Science (Ko et al.) specifically tested for adipocyte apoptosis, meaning fat cell death, in tissue treated with dual-frequency radiofrequency at XERF’s operating frequencies. Using a TUNEL assay, a recognised method for detecting cell death, researchers found no adipocyte apoptosis at any point up to 30 days after treatment. In plain terms, the fat cells examined remained structurally intact.

A separate study published in Skin Research and Technology in 2024 (Hong et al.) examined tissue six hours after treatment with the same dual-frequency approach and found clear histological evidence of collagen bundle thickening and contraction, alongside thickening of the fascial layers, consistent with the tightening effect patients report feeling during and after treatment.

Together, these findings support the same conclusion: XERF appears to work by remodelling collagen and connective tissue, not by destroying fat. It is worth noting, in the interest of full transparency, that both studies were conducted on animal tissue rather than in large human clinical trials, which is typical for a newer technology and something a responsible practitioner should be upfront about rather than glossing over.
